...AND THEN THERE WERE NONE
- posted 29/May/10Callum finally left us today for his new home. He has a big adventure on the way as he is travelling to London by train. We're sure that he will have no end of people wanting to pet him on the way.
It was very sad for us to see him go after three months of living with us and seeing his character develop, but he's going to a home with other dogs, including a St Bernard, so he won't really have chance to miss us too much.

BYE BYE PUPPIES
- posted 02/May/10The day finally arrived and Riley, Star and Rufus have now all moved to their new homes. It was a sad day for us as they had become part of the family, but we know that they will be well looked after and cared for in their new homes.
Callum's new owners aren't able to collect him for two weeks so he is staying with us until 15 May when he will finally move to his new home.
Callum is missing his playmates and we are having to make sure that he is kept occupied. Heidi and Kai are spending more time with him so he still has someone to play with.
Riley's parents phoned to let us know that he has settled in and made himself at home, and we will be checking in with the other new owners to make sure that Star and Rufus have settled in as wel...

A VISIT TO THE VET
- posted 28/Apr/10The chaps all went to the vet this morning to be checked over by the vet to make sure they are OK to travel at the weekend.
This was their second journey in a car and they have taken to it like they have been doing it all their life. Not a single whimper from any of them, in fact I think they quite enjoyed the big adventure!
They also had their first vaccination injections (with the second to follow in two weeks time) and had their microchips implanted. The microchips are implanted in the scruff of the neck using a large needle which made them all yelp. They soon got over it though: a moment of discomfort in exchange for a lifetime of knowing that your dog can be uniquely identified and returned to you if they ever got lost or stolen.

PUPPY UPDATE
- posted 26/Apr/10The pups went for their first ride in a car today. Just a ten minute run about to get them used to it, but they also paid a visit to someone who has been wanting to see them but hasn't had chance.
The pups had to stay in the car because they haven't been vaccinated yet but they weren't fazed at all by the new experience of riding about in a car. Their next trip will be to the vet in two days time.
They have mastered the art of messing up all our hard work: we bathed and blow dried them all yesterday, but today their fur is crispy from them chewing each other after they had eaten! we're expecting to have to bath them twice again before they leave us - once for their visit to the vet and again so that they are clean for their new mums and dads. It'...

THE FINAL COUNTDOWN
- posted 23/Apr/10Well, the end is nigh.
This is our final week with the puppies as they will be moving to their new homes next weekend. We know that their new mums and dads are counting down the days.
They will be wormed for the last time by us on Wednesday, and they are booked in for their vet check, their first vaccinations, and to have their microchips inserted on Wednesday as well. A busy day for them all (and for us as well; you should try corralling four pups into the back of the car to get them there and back!)
They will also have at least one more bath before the weekend to make sure they all smell sweet for their new mums and dads. It will be an early start for us next weekend as we have been assured that mums and dads will be camping out ...

WEIGHED AND WORMED, AND A DAY IN THE GARDEN
- posted 15/Apr/10Six weeks old now, so yesterday was weigh-in and worming day.
The worming is getting a bit easier to do, which is just as well as the doses are getting bigger as they grow, and we will have to do it all again in two weeks when they will be even bigger.
The weigh in went much as expected, with chunky Riley still at the top of the table and our petite lady, Star, bringing up the rear. The surprise this week was Callum who has had a bit of as growth spurt.
Today was a special day for the pups as they spent most of the day out in the garden to make the most of the sunshine. They absolutely loved it and played and slept out there for hours. We will be posting some photos of their outdoor adventure at the end of this week so you can see ho...

MORE SAINT BERNARDS HAVE JOINED OUR FAMILY.
- posted 12/Apr/10A male, Duke and his girlfriend Ruby joined us yesterday.
It was a tiring round trip of eleven hours as we managed to get lost not only on the way to collect them but also on the way back!
When we arrived home, Duke must have thought it was just another rest stop; he had a wee then got back in the car and wouldn't come out! Ruby, on the other hand, went off to investigate.
Eventually, left to his own devices, Duke came out of the car of his own accord, and settled down sprawled infront of the kitchen sink! If there's ever a reason not to do the washing up, I think having a pony sized Saint in the way is a good one!
We will see what today brings.
They will have their own profile pages and photos in the ...

NEW PHOTOS IN THE GALLERY
- posted 10/Apr/10Sorry for the delay in posting them but we have now added some photos covering days 31 to 37.
The pups are developing into proper little characters, each with their own particular traits.
Star is a real tomboy and is always going around waking up the boys for a play fight.
Callum is a very loving puppy and follows us around until we pick him up for a cuddle.
Rufus is a bit of a scamp and likes chewing his tug toys.
Riley is a real poser when the camera is out, and he likes to sleep in the strangest of places, squeezing behind the sofa in particular.
They are growing by the day and are getting really heavy now. They'll be too big to bath in the wash basin soon.

WEIGHED AND WORMED AGAIN
- posted 31/Mar/10The pups are four weeks old today which means that it is time for a weigh-in and for their second dose of wormer.
Now that they are eating more solid food they are piling on the weight. Riley is still the heaviest of the bunch at 5kg, and we're pretty sure he's going to be a very big boy when he's fully grown. Star has put on a growth spurt and is catching him up slowly.
Getting the wormer into them was trickier this time because they have almost doubled in weight since the last time they were wormed two weeks ago, and need double the dose as a result. Only two more doses to go before they leave us for their new homes!

PUPPY NEWS: WEANING
- posted 26/Mar/10The pups have begun their weaning and have taken their first taste of food that didn't come from their mum.
They have learned how to lick food instead of sucking and have had some Lactol mixed with some Giant Baby Dog Royal Canin (soaked until it became a paste).
They have all now mastered the art of lapping up the mixture and meal times are about to become a messy affair as they also like to paddle in their food while they are eating and wipe their faces on each other.
They have some competition for their food though as Heidi also loves it and keeps trying to sneak in to eat it before they can. She makes a meal out of licking them clean after mealtime!
Heidi is happy that they are moving from suckling as they have a...

SPA TEATMENT
- posted 19/Mar/10All the pups have had a manicure and pedicure, they couldn't be bothered to wake up for the experience! Then they had their first bath, rubbed down with a towel, (they loved that bit, but I got weed on!) then had a blow dry with hairdryer. They found the whole experience too exhausting and slept for ages afterwards. They smell so sweet, and feel so soft, it's really hard to stop cuddling them!

FIRST WORMING
- posted 17/Mar/10The pups are two weeks old today so they have had their first dose of wormer (Drontal Oral suspension For Puppies).
To say they were unimpressed with the experience would be an understatement! Still, it's a necessary evil that they will need to get used to every two weeks for now and every three months when they leave us.
There are four types of intestinal worm commonly found in dogs:
- Hookworm
- Roundworm
- Tapeworm
- Whipworm
All of which are fairly nasty for an infected dog.
If the puppies mother has hookworm or roundworm, they can pass to her puppies while she is still pregnant. She can also can pass the infection onto her puppies via her milk.
Puppies don't or...

YET ANOTHER PUPPY UPDATE
- posted 13/Mar/10We have just had confirmation that Mr Blue has found a new home to go to so all of our puppies are now spoken for.
Thank you to the many people who expressed an interest in our litter and we're sorry that we didn't have more puppies for you all.

ANOTHER PUPPY UPDATE
- posted 11/Mar/10Breaking News:
Following a tough choice between the two remaining boys (Mr Red and Mr Blue), Mr Red has now also found a new human to live with when he grows up.
That just leaves Mr Blue!

PUPPY AVAILABILITY UPDATE
- posted 10/Mar/10As of this morning, Miss Pink and Mr Green have now been sold (subject to contract).
Each of them have checked out their prospective new owners (without being handled yet), which is difficult to do when you still haven't opened your eyes, so Neil and Jackie had to help out in the vetting process.
Both are going to what we believe will be loving homes and will be living with people who have done their homework in respect of the breed.
They will be leaving for their new homes in early May, but will be seeing their new owners again in a few weeks when they can get some quality "hands on" bonding time.
Mr Red and Mr Blue have both had a lot of interest as well and we have planned viewings for both of them, so we expect them...

PUPPY COLOUR CODING (SEE THE GALLERY)
- posted 07/Mar/10Just in case you were wondering, the puppies each have coloured ribbons around them so that we can identify each one individually.
The three boys are red, blue and green, and the girl is pink (of course!)
We haven't finally decided on registered kennel names yet so for now we just call them Mr Red, Mr Blue, Mr Green and Miss Pink.

We lost our St Bernard Stanley, aged 10 1/2 back in November and life has not been the same since. We are considering buying a puppy now, and have been watching your photo gallery. They are all gorgeous. I cannot believe how quickly they are growing, just after a few days now. We missed this with our Saint Bernard, as he was 10 months old when we took him on as a Rescue Saint. But we had the best 10 years + ever. Could you please let us know how much you will be selling your puppies for?
Many thanks
Alison White

FURTHER PUPPY INFORMATION
- posted 06/Mar/10As we noted in the news item posted two days ago, Heidi has had a beautiful litter of four puppies: three big boys and one cute girl.
The puppies are priced at £1,000, can be viewed at 3 weeks old (from 24/03/10), and your future ownership of a particular puppy can be secured at any time by making a deposit of £200. Note that this would be non-refundable in the event that you subsequently changed your mind.
Unfortunately this is necessary because, when buyers change their minds, we miss out on other opportunities to find a loving home for the puppy concerned and it can be several weeks before a suitable new home can be found. For this reason you should ensure that you have researched the Saint Bernard breed before deciding to buy one to make certain...

PUPPIES HAVE ARRIVED. 03/03/2010
- posted 04/Mar/10Heidi has had her puppies!
She was in labour for a long time and our vet had to give her an injection to help her along.
We have three boys, colour coded as blue, green and red, and one girl, who is of course pink! You'll see what we mean when you see the photos)
They are all doing well and are greedy little monkeys.
